THE ONLINE HOME FOR CO 4713 MULTIMEDIA JOURNALISM
editor in chief / instructor of record : wendy roussin, mfa
I am a senior Broadcasting and Journalism major, looking to graduate in May 2025. I chose this major in 2020, my senior year of high school because that’s when the world of media/communication became fascinating to me. During the covid lockdown, I became submerged in the field of journalism because I felt as if it was a whole other world on its own..
What I love about broadcasting is ongoing information that you intake throughout your education. Not only are you learning about the different facets and aspects of the field, but you're also reading and informing yourself on what is going on around the world daily. This constant intake of information throughout my four years has helped me grow intellectually and personally.
A project that I loved doing for a class was creating my own website in Digital Communication. That project is dear to my heart because if you told me in the beginning of the semester that I would be able to create my own website by doing code from scratch, I would definitely look at you as if you were insane. To me, that project was a true display of my growth as a student in this major
.Out of writing, photography, and video, writing is definitely my personal favorite. However, I’m more of a fan of writing when I am able to concentrate on a topic that I am interested in. This could be something that is or has been happening in the world, or created from my imagination
.Something I am looking to learn from this class is how to truly create a fluid story using writing, photography, and video effectively. Before, I have taken classes where we may have used one or two forms of these types of media, but never three. I am also looking to simply expand on my knowledge in this field to further my own skills
.Currently, I am part of an internship with the government. I’ve been working under the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) agency for two years, however, this internship concludes once I graduate. After my completion of the internship, I plan to continue working in the government and building a potential career within there
.Some strengths that I possess are my writing skills, interpersonal skills, photography, and creation. Writing has always been something I excelled at and have been recognized for. My interpersonal skills as strength regarding this class alludes to teamwork, as well as the interviews I conduct. In terms of creation, I can create a story or write a story where there is none.
Something I can improve on is my videography. Due to this being the last form of media I learned out of the three, I could still use more practice to get comfortable in this area and refine my skills. I also include editing video as something that I can continue to improve upon
.I do not have any experience in podcasting or audio, however, I think that is something that is important to learn and work with; especially with where the world is headed now in terms of entertainment. Since the lockdown, podcasting has been the main source of media where people go to get their entertainment and news. This form of media has become so popular that even people who’re revered in their own professions are turning to podcasting and audio to put out content
I am extremely happy with my experiences while being a part of this major. I have learned and added so many skills to my repertoire and met many people that have helped me along the way. Being a broadcast major is something that I will always hold my head high and be proud to say that I AM
