My name is Alex Lipscomb, and I'm a senior at Mississippi State University. I am majoring in Communication Broadcast & Digital Journalism. I have two brothers, Andrew and Miller, and a sister named Ally, along with a cat named Dolly and a dog named Bear.
As a freshman, I was surprised by the workload and the discipline that it took to succeed. Getting up at 8 a.m. and attending different classes each day was tiring, but it was good to learn so much throughout my four years. I feel ready to graduate in May and be successful as I go into the working world.
My favorite events while at Mississippi State are attending football, baseball, and basketball games. It has been the most enjoyable part of my four years. I love sports and Mississippi State offers so many games. My most memorable moment at Mississippi State has to be when the baseball team made the college playoffs and won the NCAA baseball championship in 2021.
My main goal in this class is to continue to learn about the different types of media and become more familiar with all types of media outlets. I want to understand the current landscape of journalism and how it is changing. This will help me when I graduate in May as I work in an area of journalism.
I chose the degree path of Journalism because I enjoy talking to people about the news and especially sports. The people and professors in the journalism department are kind and helpful, supporting students through their academic journey. My favorite aspect of the major is photography. I enjoy going around and capturing sporting events and other interesting subjects.
In my Advanced TV Production class with Chris Minsum, I completed a memorable project creating a 30-minute show, which was both educational and fun. While creating the show we got to experience different roles within the production. I really enjoyed learning how a show was produced and directed. .
The education and hands-on opportunities that I have received from Mississippi State are invaluable. I feel like I will be able to take all I have learned in the Journalism Department and apply it to my career. I would like to produce and direct the news and sports broadcast eventually, but I am open to every aspect after graduation.
In May I will graduate and I plan to pursue an internship with Disney through their Disney College Program. I hope to be chosen to work there for a couple of years and gain experience while learning and making new connections. This opportunity will give me more hands-on experience for my future career in journalism.
